Below is a checklist of all the required documents for the Ph.D. Program.
- Online application form
- Name, birth date, sex, citizenship, address, phone, email
- Educational and Employment histories
- GPA (if available)
- Intended field of study
- Statement of purpose
- Application status of any government scholarship
- Indicate any need for TA/RA-ships and/or tuition waiver
- Two (2) possible Ph.D. dissertation advisors of your choice
- Names and contact info of three (3) academic references and their recommendation letters
- List of your research papers
- Writing samples (Master’s thesis, for example)
- Receipt of application fee (5,000 yen)
- Academic transcripts
- Certificate of graduation
- English proficiency test scores (TOEFL, IELTS, etc.)
- GRE scores (if available)
- Certificate of Employment (required for some applicants)
- Other documents showing strengths, if available
- Documents to verify nationality (typically your passport) and residency
The International Ph.D. Program (IPhD) in Economics is going to apply for the International Priority Graduate Programs by MEXT. If the program is selected, MEXT will offer scholarships and international travel expenses. Applicants with excellent academic records are recommended to MEXT through YNU. The scholarships will be offered until the end of the standard program term. Students graduating from universities with Agreements with YNU will be given preferential treatment.
