YNU selects scholarship candidates from among those who expect to be enrolled in a degree program and recommends them directly to MEXT for the Japanese government scholarship.

The scholarships provide the monthly stipend for the grantee to complete the regular course contingent upon excellent academic performance. YNU offers a tuition waiver to students with the MEXT scholarships. The MEXT scholarship recipients will receive priority in their housing application for a furnished room with internet connection in the Ooka International Residence (The average commute to YNU is 40 minutes) or Tokiwadai International Residence located on campus.

Notice: Effective for applications for October 2014 onwards, the Japanese Government Scholarship (University Recommendation) selection will be subjected to a listing of Priority Regions as assigned by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan.

The Priority Regions, 2017 are as follows: ASEAN, East Asia, Southwest Asia including India, Russia and CIS countries, Africa, Middle East, South America, Central and Eastern Europe, USA

Selection and Results Notification

Oct 11- 31, 2019

The Japanese Government (MEXT) scholarship (University Recommendation) must be applied for at the same time as application for admission.
To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must tick the box on the web application system.

Dec 9-12, 2019

Further detailed instructions will be provided to applicants by YNU Graduate School Affairs Office via email.

Dec 16-20, 2019

To confirm the eligibility of the Application Guidelines MEXT Scholarship, short-listed applicants will be invited for an IP-Phone interview at the admission screening interview.

February 10, 2020 (tentative)

Applicants who pass the final selection for admission and apply for the scholarship will be notified of the scholarship result.

Late March, 2020

YNU will recommend the nominees for the scholarships to MEXT.

By the end of June (tentative), 2020

YNU will be notified of the successful recipients by MEXT.
