Scholarships

Are there any scholarships available for applicants to your program?
Two types of Japanese Ministry of Education (MEXT) Scholarships are available for incoming students in the International Ph.D. Program. First, we strongly recommend applicants to apply through their local embassies for MEXT (Embassy Recommendation) scholarships at the Ph.D. level. Secondly, applicants can apply for MEXT (University Recommendation) scholarships, for which YNU selects scholarship candidates from among those who are expected to enroll in a degree program and recommends them directly to MEXT. Additionally, we can recommend incoming Ph.D. students for the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO)'s MEXT Honors Scholarship for privately financed international students. For more information on these and other scholarships as well as waivers, please click the following link:
Besides, there are also some foreign government scholarships awarded by the student's home country. For further information on other scholarships for international students, please contact YNU after you have been admitted.
Do you also offer postdoctoral fellowships?
No. We do not finance postdoctoral fellowships. However, if you want to spend some time in our department as a postdoctoral fellow, you might want to apply for a fellowship program such as the Postdoctoral Fellowship Program for Foreign Researchers (Gaikokujin Tokubetsu Kenkyuin) or the Postdoctoral Fellowship Program (Short‐term) granted by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).
Are Scholarships from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science & Technology (Monbukagakusho or MEXT) in Japan the same as the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) Scholarships?
Yes. These scholarships types are classified as being the same. Specifically, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science & Technology (Monbukagakusho or MEXT) designs and sponsors several types of scholarships. For more information, refer to the following link:
