Admissions for M.A. and Ph.D. Programs

Application Period

The graduate school individually assesses the eligibility of some applicants before accepting application fees and formal applications. The eligibility assessment period for these applicants is:

Note on application fee: Those applicants with MEXT scholarship or Vietnam International Education Development (VIED) scholarship are exempt from payment of the application fee. The applicants are required to submit documents, such as "Certificate of MEXT Scholarship Student" or VIED's "Letter of Nomination" at the time of application.

Time of Entrance

The intake period for the International M.A. Program in Economics is in October, unlike most Japanese universities which traditionally commence in April. Those who wish to enroll in the M.A. program typically have a 4-year bachelor or equivalent degree in Economics, or some related field (Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Business, etc.). The designed completion time for the program is two years.

The intake period for the International Ph.D. Program in Economics is also October. Those who wish to enroll in the Ph.D. program typically have a Master’s degree in Economics, or some related field. Typically, the student will finish in three years.

Screening

Screening is done in two stages - document screening based on application materials, followed by an IP Phone interview. The Department of Economics will issue acceptance letters in March for October admission.
